New Year Book Resolution

This past summer, I got back into reading. Since July, I've read a total of 45 novels/novellas. That may seem a lot or not that much to some but it's an amazing amount given I haven't read much in the past few years.

Since 2013 is coming to a close and 2014 is days away, I wanted to let you know what this blog has for in store for you.

1. I plan on reading 100 books this year.
2. This means I will write reviews on those books! That's right! Something I've lacked in doin this year on those other 40 books.
3. I plan on doing book to movie adaptation reviews.
4. Book hauls ( letting you know what I'm buying)
5. Having a Friday reads post every week. This is something that started on twitter and I found through YouTube. It's where you just let everyone know what you plan on reading that night and throughout the weekend.
6. Monthly wrap ups. Letting you know what I accomplished that month. Which gives you a heads up on those reviews you'll get to read.
7. Monthly TBR's (to be read).  Books I plan on reading that month.

I hope this sounds interesting to you and you'll want to join me this year. Please let me know of any suggestions. If you blog or YouTube about books please share the link. I'd love to check it out.

Thanks for stopping by and I'll talk to you soon!

Take care because I care,
Sarah

October To Be Read (TBR)

Hello!

Last month, I only ended up reading 5 books. That isn't a lot considering the previous months. There are just so many books that I'm interested in reading, it's difficult to choose.

I narrowed it down to these ones. Of course I'll complete Dash & Lily's book of dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan first and pushing the limits by Katie mcgarry. Then I will then move on to:

- Delirium by Lauren Oliver
- pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
- requiem by Lauren Oliver
- all we know of Heaven by Jacquelyn Mitchard
- dare you to by Katie mcgarry

What will you be reading??

Thanks for stopping by and happy reading!

September Wrap Up

This month I didn't end up reading as much. With working, taking 4 days to go out of town for a wedding and so on, I only read a few books.

I finished Matched by Ally Condie and The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. I started these books last month and finished them a few days into September.
I made no progress whatsoever with City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

I picked up Crossed by Ally Condie so I can continue the Matched Trilogy. About a week later I picked up Reached so I can finish the trilogy.

Once done with the Matched trilogy, I picked up The Duff.

To finish off the month I attempted to read delirium by Lauren Oliver. I read a few chapters and then went to Dash & Lily's book of dares.  I wasn't ready to read another trilogy and this stand alone intrigued me for a while.  I didn't read the entire book yet but I did read 1/3.  I've also been reading Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry on my kobo while at work.. Only 4 chapters in so far.

So in total this month, I read 5 books. Not the greatest but it's still more than 1 book a week. Yay!

What did you read this month?

Thanks for stopping by,

Sarah

August TBR

Hi,

Today I wanted to share what I plan on reading this month. With reading a ton of books and novellas last month, I'm super pumped to keep on with my reading. I did a huge book haul which makes choosing a book that much more difficult.
However, I narrowed it down a bit.

1- the summer I turned pretty by Jenny Han
2- it's not summer without you by Jenny Han
3- we'll always have summer by Jenny Han

This is a trilogy I want to finish this month since it's summer. A nice light/ fast read will be nice.

I was thinking of getting into the harry potter series while I'm at camp but I've decided on a few different books.

I think I'll bring:
1- city of bones by Cassandra Clare (I want to read it before the movie comes out)
2- divergent/ insurgent by Veronica Roth
3- the selection/ the elite by Keira Cass

Now these are all pretty big books and are in a series/ trilogy.

So for a stand alone I add:
1- Hereafter by Tara Hudson
2- Evercrossed by Elizabeth chandler

So I added 10 books in total for the month. Lets see what I can do.

What are you reading this month?

Happy reading!
Sarah

July book haul! Over 65 books!

For August, I have a lot of reading planned. I bought at least 60 books! What?! Who does that? That's not even counting the 6 on my kobo e-reader!

For someone who only read 2 trilogies last year, that's nuts!

So I got introduced to the booktube community on YouTube this month and they have a ton of awesome recommendations.  I think because I don't have many friends or family members who like to read, it's hard to find new good books that will interest me. However, the booktube community has.

Here are the books I bought this month.

1- pretty little liar series (1-13) by Sara shepard
2- the host by Stephanie meyer
3- harry potter complete series by j.k Rowling
4- divergent by Veronica Roth
5- insurgent by Veronica Roth
6- the selection by Keira Cass
7- the elite by Keira Cass
8- cinder by Marissa Meyer
9- Scarlett by Marissa meyer

11- dare you to by Katie mcgarry
12- hereafter by Tara Hudson
13- Snow White illustrated by Camille rose Garcia
14- Alice's adventures in wonderland illustrate by Camille Ross Garcia
15- Emma by Jane Austin
16- evercrossed by Elizabeth chandler

33- matched by ally condie

Review: Just A Little series by Tracie Puckett

Book review
Just A Little series by Tracie Puckett
I am reviewing the first 7 books in the series.

Just A Little Crush
Just A Little Embrace
Just A Little  Sincerity
Just A Little Promise
Just A Little Surprise
Just A Little Insecurity
Just A Little Honesty

Description:

The story features Julie Little. She has a high school project to shadow someone in their career. When her uncle brings her to the police station and is paired with Luke, her life changes.  Without giving much away, there is a love triangle, a little mystery and action in this series.

My thoughts:

This is a very short read.  There is little description given and each book surrounds a different scene / trouble.
The books start where the previous one left off so you definitely need to read it in order. Although its very fast pasted and kind of predictable, it was still a good light read. It kept me interested to keep on reading until I was done the series.

I would rate this 3/5

I do recommend you read this one though if you want a quick read of some young love.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know if you've read this or will read this.

Take care and happy reading,

Sarah

Booktube-a-thon: Day 2

Challenges of the day:
1- finish a series/trilogy
2- read at least 300 pages

Today I chose to read the Just A Little series by Tracie Puckett.

It's a book series featuring less than 75 pages per book. There are currently 7 books in the series and an 8th yet to be published. So at least I completed the series as per what's available at the moment.

So how did I do?

I completed 2 challenges! Yay! I read over 300 pages and finishes a series!
It's only 9:40 pm right now. The night is still young. I have yet to choose another book to read but I can't wait to get myself lost in a new story.

Let me know how you're doing so far. Check out the videos on YouTube for other updates from the booktubers and check out twitter using #booktubeaton

Thanks for stopping by.

Take care and happy reading!

Review: Scream Queen by Edo Van Belkom

Book review
Scream Queen by Edo Van Belkom
Published: 2003
300 pages

Description :

Two brothers who make low budget horror movies decide to make a reality tv show.  The tv show consists of six contestants that have to stay in a haunted house overnight for a chance to be the "scream queen" and win the lead in their next movie.  When they hire a parapsychologist who warns them to stay away from this house and things start to go horribly wrong, are the stunts happening their own or of the ghosts inhabiting this house?

My thoughts:

I had to read this in my high school English class. I loved it then but u haven't read it since 2005 or 2006.  Since its been a few years, I picked it up today and read the whole thing all over again.

My thoughts... Well considering I thought I forgot most of the story, I was wrong! Maybe forgot a few minor details.  This to me is a good thing because it means this book is so good, you'll remember it!

One of the reasons I like this book is because you see both sides of the story. In one chapter you will read about the main character and the contestants. In the next chapter, you'll see the production side of things from the brothers making the reality show.

The book is pretty much written in two parts. Getting the contestants ready/production and the second part is where all the real action begins (when the filming starts/they enter the house).

Would I recommend this book?
Yes!! I think teenages/ young adults would love this as well as anyone into horror type books.

Rate it: 4/5

I hope you enjoyed this. I'd love some feedback/ thoughts on what you liked about this review or what you hated. Let me know in the comments.

Thanks for stopping by.

Take care,

Sarah

Signed book!

You know how you have to read certain books in high school as a class and make a report.  Well often, the books that were chosen were good.

I have yet to remember the name of a book in grade 7.  Had to do with a face under the ice.. Guy names Todd I think.. Ugh I can't find it! I'd love to own it!
Ah we'll..

Another was a french book called Si c'était vrai by Marc Levy.  After about a month, the movie adaptation, Just Like Heaven came to theaters. Awesome timing :)

The third book I can remember is Scream Queen by Edo Van Belkom.  I read this in class in either grade 11 or 12 English.  My teacher had a ton of copies and by the time we were done reading the book, he managed to get the author to come to our school to talk to us! After meeting him, the teacher said that those who want a singed copy can pay I think $5 to keep the school copy of the book and get the author's signature! So cool! So of course I did and here it is!

I love how he personalized it with the name but he pretty much wrote the same thing in each book.. Who cares?! I love what he wrote. Most of all.. I'm glad he wrote my name right.. Sarah WITH an H!

I think this is my most treasured books. I didn't think the hype over an author signing a book but its actually very exciting and special. I love it!

Do you have a signed book? Let me know in the comments.

Want to know what this book is about or my review? Stay tuned for my next post.

booktube-a-thon: Day 1

Today I started the week long read-a-thon featured on YouTube. Search booktube-a-thon and you will find the details or look at my past post.

To start off the week, I chose to tackle three of the challenges in 1 day!

1- read at least 300 pages per day
2- re-read a book
3- read a book that's been on your shelf forever

The book I've read today was Scream Queen by Edo Van Belkom.

This book has 300 pages exact, I read it in high school. It's been on my shelf since 2005 or 2006.

Bonus?? It's signed by the author! :)
Stay tuned for that story in my next post.

I've managed I read the whole thing today. I started at 1:30 pm and finished around 11:30 pm. I did stop to watch a few tv shows, eat, watch YouTube videos and play on my phone. I don't usually read a book in a day so this is a huge accomplishment for me!  Another accomplishment is that I've successfully finished 3 challenges!

Tomorrow I plan on reading the "Just A Little" series. Stay tuned tomorrow for an update on that.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know in the comments what you'll be reading. Remember, if you missed this week's read-a-thon, you can start on your own any week of the year. :)

Take care,
Sarah

booktube-a-thon

7 days, 7 challenges!

One of my subscriptions on YouTube mentioned a booktube-a-thon. Apart from trying to read as much as they can in one week's time, there are seven challenges.

1-read an average of 300 pages a day
2- read a book with over 500 pages
3- re-read one book
4- finish a series/trilogy
5- read a book that's been on your shelf forever
6- listen to an audiobook
7- read a classic

You're able to combine challenges as well. For example: re-read a 500 page classic you've bought 8 years ago.

Here is my list:

1- Scream Queen by Edo Van Belkom
--> re-read a book
--> been on my shelf since 2005 or 2006
2- City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare
--> 512 pages
3. Just a little series by Tracie Puckett
--> 7 book series ( less than 100 pages each)
4- pride and prejudice by Jane Austin
--> classic

The only challenge left is audiobook. I have the audiobook for fifty shades of grey trilogy but I've come to hate audiobooks.  It changes the way I would have read it or imagined a story play out of changes the voice I had in mind for the characters.. My version in my head is better then someone else reading a story to me.

I will update you throughout the week.

Check out my TBR for July 2013 in my previous post for a longer list of reads this month.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you'll read for this challenge. Even if you see this at a later time, this challenge is do-able any week of the year.

Sarah
